The symposium
Agents in the Anthropocene: Trans/disciplinary Practices in Art and Design Education Today explored the role of artistic and cultural practices in discussing the global environmental condition. The growing number of events and displays dedicated to this theme advocate for transdisciplinary research modes that incorporate visual, cultural, artistic, technological, ecological and political categories. The conversation at the event responded on the urge for a new kind of aesthetics for narrating the contemporary global reality — whether measured by a scientist or framed by an artist, or collaboratively developed by both. The symposium aimed to address the possibility of this collaborative narration to transform separate creative disciplines into a new multidisciplinary field, the future appearance of which remains speculative.
